The APQP Quality Engineer will facilitate the development of Advanced Product Quality Planning documentation which meets both AIAG and customer requirements. The purpose of APQP documentation is to protect the customer design intent through process design and development and assure that the controls selected are adequate to meet or exceed customer quality and delivery targets.


  • Initiates the APQP process
  • Schedules and facilitates APQP team meetings
  • Utilizes multi-disciplinary teams composed of engineering, purchasing, quality, manufacturing personnel and others as needed
  • Assures that the APQP methodology as defined by the Director of Quality, is used
  • Produces the finished documents; Process Flow Chart (PFC), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Control Plan
  • When required, produces part-number specific Control Plans to be submitted in PPAP packages
  • Prepares APQP documents for on-time PPAP sample submissions
  • Analyzes production history to accurately determine occurrence and detection rankings
  • Use other APQP tools such as AIAG check lists to assure completeness of the APQP process
  • Lead preventive action and continual improvement initiatives using the PFMEA as a prioritizing tool
  • Able to use statistical tools such as capability studies, control charts, correlation and regression analysis, Hypothesis Testing and Pareto distributions


  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • The candidate should be a data driven, results oriented, hands on, creative and detail oriented leader with strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning
  • The candidate must be able to obtain the active participation of the process owners.


  • A Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering with a statistics major is highly desirable
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to work in heavy manufacturing environment is required
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines is required
  • Experience and business knowledge of metal forming, welding and finishing in general and tube fabrication in specific is a plus.
  • Experience working in automotive environments is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with expert level in data analysis using Excel is required
  • Knowledge of use of Minitab is highly desirable
  • Self-motivated with excellent leadership skills and the ability to support and motivate others is required
